Home Automotive Exhaust Systems

PostHeaderIcon Exhaust Systems

When using an internal combustion system (the engine) the propulsion is made by igniting the fuel. When everything burns it produces smoke (and gases), the same is applied to an engine. The exhaust system is a highway for the smoke and gases to be transferred from the engine out the backbox using a series of sound dampening chambers and catalytic converters which reduce the harmful gases escaping into the atmosphere.

Common Problems

The major issue with exhaust systems is rust, as the exhaust is located underneath the car, it becomes vurenable to road salt by gritters. The main problems encountered and loose heat shields (causing annoying rattly noises), and even brackets rusting off causing the exhaust to hang down.
